What academic databases do you find most helpful in your research? Challenging? Why? Strengths and weaknesses? Which ones do you think you should explore further?
When it comes to using academic databases, there is no shortage of what is available. What is a bit frustrating is there are so many, but I had little knowledge of what they are and where to look them up. Since I had only been made aware of a few different other databases to use, I have only used the library academic search (NOVA’s and now UMW’s). Although not perfect, I have not had a lot of issues with it. It has been easy in my opinion to use and it always gets the job done. I have used JSTOR, and to be quite honest I am not a huge fan of it. I would rather use the library one, but maybe I am just a creature of habit and therefore I like to stick to what I know what works. Not too long ago, world cat was brought to my attention. I have not had a chance to use it just yet, but I did take it for a test run, and I have to say I felt it had way more available than the average library data base. I should probably take more time further exploring the other data bases that are there instead of just sticking to what I know.
